Alright, this is my blog right? And there have been times in the past when controversy has begun here. But I must write about something that is just fascinating to me. Indulge my pregnant emotions for a bit....

I just finished reading The DaVinci Code. Now, this book is not new and I've been intending to read it forever. But with the movie due out next week and all the debate about it, I decided it was time. I read it in 4 hours. Then our church decided to spend the next four Sunday nights discussing the truth about the book and how we can speak to unbelievers about it. Ok, I LOVED this book. Now hear me, I loved it AS A WORK OF FICTION. I am NOT saying that I agree with the suppositions he makes or any of that. But it is one of the best books I have read in a LONG time. It is masterfully written and full of the stuff that I LOVE in a book; twists, turns, shockingness (my own word) and a happy ending. But more than that, I just cannot get over the fact that it presents such a clear opportunity to share my faith. The book calls some very real beliefs into question. Could Jesus have been married? Does his bloodline still exist, etc. I think the movie will be a blockbuster which every preson and their brother will see it.....again, what an opportunity. What an opening to share what I believe about Jesus.

*deep breath* alright, let's hear it....what do y'all think?

yep... i LOVED the book... i found it incredibly intriguing and, like you, a great conversation piece for inserting truth/beliefs/etc...
i am excited to see the movie and i think it will be a blockbuster...
From a publicity standpoint, it was smart for them to go at this book with the angle of it being truth... and people get caught up in silly stuff. i know that this book has errupted into clubs, discussion groups and types of "church groups" of it's own, which just shows how people are searching and seeking...

I can't wait to see the movie either, I'm interested to know how closely they'll follow the book.

I have to admit, at first I stayed away from the book because everybody close to me who read it bought into it, forgetting it was only fiction. Add to that the fact that I tend to shy away from things that get too much attention (i.e., I still have not watched "My Big Fat Greek Wedding")

But now I'm doing a 180 and am totally stoked about seeing the movie. From what I've heard and seen in movie clips, I believe it will have the mystery twists such as in National Treasurer.

IF YOU HAVEN'T READ THE BOOK:
*POSSIBLE SPOILER WITHIN THIS POST*

Just kidding! I actually really liked it too. I don't take books of fiction very seriously. I had a few conversations about it with people that took it seriously.

I even take it a step further and have wondered if it would even be of any consequence to us if Jesus had been married and had a child...what do you all think of that? (just for clarification: I am not saying that I have formed an opinion on this...I just am curious what people would think about this), gosh I hope I am not spoiling anything for those that haven't read it yet.

Whatever comes of this, Mandi, you asked for it!!

I always kind of wished that Jesus had fallen in love. We know that he was an incredible man....however, if he HAD had children....then those children would be part God....hmmm. Yeah not sure that was in the plan, obviously it wasn't or we would have read about it in the Bible. But it does cause for pause, hey I rhymed :)

I am not saying that this happened, I fully believe that this book and ideas are fiction.

I am just asking if it would have made a difference in our salvation. Could Jesus have still given us eternal salvation by taking the sins of the world upon himself if he was married and had a son? I'm not sure I can see a reason why not. As long as there was no sin, of course.

well I have not read it, but I have heard its a wonderful book..FICTION as you say..

I think it is nice that a book can strike up so much talk. Wheather you beilve it..(not sure why you would..but some think of it as truth)..or you oppse its views..its good to get people reading and tlaking..

You are making me want to read it though..I am not much for watching movies, but I do love tom hanks;)

mandi, if you haven't already, read my may 02 post Book Review, and the comments. The book does stir the pot a bit.
Also, thanks for the visit. There are some familiar scoundrels that read your blog.

you know, i have to say that i think, at least to a degree, Jesus did experience that type of love... We have such a small snippet of his life recorded... but with that snippet we are given an assurance that he experienced what we experience, and romantic love is SO MUCH a part of our lives...
i have to agree, i don't think it would be of earth shattering consequence IF Jesus had married and fathered. I also don't feel it would be A) our business, persay. also (not that i buy into the book,i don't) i feel that IF this had happened, it would be within the childs best interest to be "covered up"...

I just had a chance, today, to catch up on the comments. Kelli, your first comment had me laughing so hard i nearly wet myself...

mandi, you troublemaker. ;)

You know me Misty, I walk on the wild side, I laugh in the face of danger, HA HA HA...

No, I don't think it would have mattered if Jesus had been married. Would he still have been able to die on the cross? Absolutely. The line for me is children. Jesus was fully God. Don't you think that if children had been part of the bigger picture we would have been clued into that? And wouldn't there have been issues with people "worshipping" the people who were his descandents? And it would kind of mess with the whole "we are the Bride of Christ" thing too, I think. Ok that was way too opinonated...sorry :)

I agree with the notion that His kids being partly God would certainly complicate matters.
